Sukhmani Sahib

ਸੁਖਮਨੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ

By Guru Arjan Dev Ji (5th Guru) · 24 Ashtpadis (8-stanza sections), SGGS pages 262–296

About This Bani

Sukhmani Sahib — 'The Jewel of Peace' or 'The Psalm of Peace' — is one of the most beloved banis in Sikhism. Composed by Guru Arjan Dev Ji, it is found on pages 262 to 296 of the Guru Granth Sahib Ji and consists of 24 Ashtpadis (groups of 8 stanzas), each preceded by a Salok. Many Sikhs recite it on Sunday mornings, during times of difficulty, or whenever the mind needs peace and clarity.

Why We Recite This

Sukhmani Sahib is traditionally recited when one is facing difficulty, uncertainty, or mental restlessness — or simply to cultivate inner peace. The Guru promises that whoever recites, listens to, or even thinks about this bani with love will find peace of mind, their anxieties will be removed, and their soul will be filled with God's light.
