Life and Teachings
Born in Patna, he became Guru at age 9 after his father's martyrdom. On Vaisakhi 1699 at Anandpur Sahib, he founded the Khalsa Panth with the Panj Pyare — the first five beloved ones. He fought for the dignity of the oppressed, gave us the 5 Ks, and before his ascension at Hazur Sahib, declared Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji to be the eternal Guru of the Sikhs.
