He wore two swords — one for spiritual authority (Piri), one for worldly sovereignty (Miri). He built the Akal Takht facing Harmandir Sahib. The famous 'Bandi Chhor Divas' — when he was released from prison along with 52 Hindu kings whose freedom he insisted upon — is celebrated every year as Diwali.
